Handwoven artisan scarf made from Irish Donegal merino wool. Woven on a floor loom in my weaving studio, this scarf is created from natural tweed yarn that develops a beautifully soft handle, a richly textured surface, and a substantial feel after wet finishing. The natural properties of merino wool make it warm, breathable, and comfortable to wear throughout autumn, winter, and early spring. A timeless woven textile, it is made in Poland in the spirit of slow fashion for those who value natural fibres and artisan craftsmanship. The "Peat and Clay" mini-series of three scarves explores the colours and textures of minerals and ceramics. It brings to mind fertile soil and the dense layer of clay beneath it—the same clay that has been used to make ceramics for centuries. The inspiration arrived unexpectedly while I was planting tomatoes in my greenhouse. As I uncovered the compact clay beneath a thin layer of rich topsoil, I began thinking about the remarkable diversity of the world hidden beneath our feet. "Peat and Clay: Elements" continues that story through the rich colours concealed within the earth. Warm rusty browns and clay tones are joined by vibrant reds, purples, and violets, allowed to blend freely throughout the woven textile. As the scarf gradually took shape, it reminded me of the minerals and chemical elements that have given soils their colour and character for thousands of years. This handwoven scarf is an original design in which colour, texture, and traditional hand weaving come together to tell a quiet story about the remarkable world hidden just beneath our feet.
